Individual Software has partnered with ClassLink to offer the company’s four Typing Apps to schools and school districts across the country that use ClassLink’s platform. The platform is easily accessed by schools and districts and provides easy Single Sign-On (SSO) for students to log in to educational apps in the classroom, and also provides rostering, which makes it easy to set up students in classes.ClassLink can be integrated with various Learning Management Systems (LMS) like Canvas, Schoology, and Blackboard, allowing users to access their LMS through the ClassLink platform using a single set of credentials.
Individual Software’s CEO, Jo-L Hendrickson, says, “Integrating with ClassLink is an important step for our company to broaden our reach into new school districts and classrooms. Feedback from educators and students has been a significant factor in developing our typing engine and technology to bring typing apps to market that do three key things: educate, motivate, and entertain students. This formula takes typing out of the boring repetition mode into an adventure that allows students, K-12, to learn to keyboard successfully.”
The company partnered with the Walt Disney Company to create Disney Mickey’s Typing Adventure; software designed for young children in grades K-3. It combines education, motivation, and entertainment into an exciting typing adventure with full Disney animations of favorite characters, Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Pluto, Goofy, and Huey, Dewey, and Louie. Students are challenged to solve a mysterious enchantment to free Mickey and friends and make their way to the Palace and become touch typists.
Disney Mickey’s Typing Adventure features 11 Custom Typing Plans. These eleven distinct typing plans allow kids to follow step-by-step learning plans for their unique skill level. Each plan was designed with a range of typists in mind, with varying skill levels. According to Hendrickson, “When it comes to learning to type, one size does not fit everyone!”
Games are fully integrated in each typing app and provide a great way to practice skills learned in the Typing Lessons and Tests. In addition to only using keys that students have learned so far, the game speed is controlled by the typist’s current word per minute (WPM). This is essential for skill-building and reinforcing proper finger-to-key placement, which also improves accuracy.
The Typing Management Center provides educators with tools to manage schools, classes, teachers, and students. Teachers can create custom content for typing lessons, plans, or tests that are tied into the classroom curriculum. For example, if students are studying the Constitution or Patagonia wildlife, content about those subjects can be added to the typing curriculum to reinforce learning.
Typing is an important life skill that students will use throughout their educational experience, taking tests, writing papers, communicating with others, and as they launch into careers. The last time you visited the doctor; did they write notes with a pen or type the notes on a device? Technology devices are used in every career imaginable.
